Fraud A White Collar Crime That Is Victimless - 992 Words
Embezzlement seems to be a white collar crime that is victimless. However, when monies are embezzled from a non profit it affects all those involved especially those benefitting from the work of the nonprofit organization. I thought of our local community nonprofit arts foundation. They not only produce a full slate of shows each season, but also provide classes in painting, sculpting, drawing, acting, music, and dance. If they were defrauded in the amount of $93,000 it would affect educational programs and community outreach. In the scenario given, ââ¬Å"Bobâ⬠served in many positions within a nonprofit over a three year period of time and he stole $93,000 in a variety of ways. In a small nonprofit this might be a large percentage of their operating expenses. It could have an enormous impact on the nonprofit staying in operation as well as those who are served in the community. First we should address what the organization could have done to detect the theft earlier and areas the organization can prevent fraud. Next we will look at implementing safeguards and checks and balances to prevent future occurrences. And Finally, we will address a public relations campaign that will regain the trust of donors and the community. There are steps that could be taken to eliminate or reduce the possibility of theft as well as specific areas within the organization which can provide checks and balances. I always looked forward to wednesdays, we had gym with Mrs. Moore it was almost like a free period but her health class on the other hand was dreaded by many including myself. Im sure youll enjoy some of the same classes I did,my favorite was Mr. Hanleys english class senior year. Even though we joked around and and he made us laugh most of the period he somehow found a way to get serious and get back on track. Then after our work was done he would goof off some more. The worst class would have to be history with Mr. V, just the sound of his voice telling us to turn page 1092 and do numbers 1 to 10 when we had 8 days of school left would urke my nerves and i know majority of the class felt the same. Weekend basketball games were exciting and it was somthing to do on a friday night. Now baseball games were never to interesting to me, regardless i never understood what was going on i just never liked many of the baseball players, they had a cockiness about them that made me barely able to stand the sight of them. Throughout these years you should alway have fun and always have a clear mind and NEVER worry about the rumors the other sections girls make up about you. I always just assumed they were jealous and had nothing else better to do, you should do the same. The most important thing here is your school work. No matter what you should always try your best and do all your assignments, handing them in on time would be even better no one can afford ten points off every day its late. Looking back if i could do it all over again i wouldnt change to many things, maybe just some of the friends i had. As the days go by you grow as a person and you realize who your real friends are. Thats why i always say worry about yourself and yourself only. I say this because everyone looks out for themselves and they arent preoccupied about you and your buisness so you need to stay on top of it and make these four years as easy as possible. Each day in highschool is just another lesson, not only a math lesson that you dont understand or another boring book in english class but there life lessons that will make you a better, wiser person. These lessons will show you who you really are and help you develop into the person that you will strive to be one day. Senior year will come much sooner than later and within a blink of an eye you will be at graduation walking down St. Marys church recieving your highschool diploma. Now lets talk about four years that might be a bit more appealing, college. Everyone brags that college is so much better than highschool and how you become independent during those four years but i guess ill jus see for myself in september. Apply to more than one college, dont make the same mistake i did. Believe me youll regret it big time. One more thing take it slow with Sister Anne and try not to make her life so difficult. Try to always keep in mind that she is eighty five years old and has had it with all of us kids who dont seem to listen very well. So make the best out of these next four years and succeed. A Literature Review On Online Reviews Vs Company Advertising
Question: Discuss about the Literature Review On Online Reviews Vs Company Ads. Answer: Introduction Purpose The purpose of this report is to explore on research on consumer preferences between company advertising and online reviews. It seeks to look into what mostly is preferred by the consumers, when purchasing products and services in the market and when finding the best businesses. It further explores the benefits and drawbacks of each method and gives a clear indication of what mostly is considered. It is an analysis of both the comparison and contrast of the two approaches among customers. Analysis: Online reviews In a recent research by the bright local survey, it has revealed that most consumers prefer online reviews in finding out about the performance and worth of the business. The survey revealed that in 2015, 80% of individuals admitted to trusting the online reviews more (Anon 2014). This survey revealed that consumers tend to trust the non-paid reviews by other individuals because these reviews are honest opinions of other people who have had contact with the business. These individuals believed that these online reviews could help learn about the business without bias unlike commercial advertising where the ads are paid for, and the message is more often fabricated. This survey further indicated that consumers considered reviews based on reliability, professionalism, and expertise in business mostly. With 27% percent considering reliability more. The survey indicates that 2/3 of consumers consider reading more reviews than considering the ads done by business through the media (The National Law Review 2013). Research has also indicated that, in every ten people, nine of them believe that online reviews and personal recommendation, take up an equal place. The online review has created trust in consumers the same way they would trust personal recommendations to a business by a friend or family. Benefits of Online Reviews Consumers have largely benefited from online reviews as well as the business being reviewed. Online reviews regularly offer free advertising to the company. Consumers often leave online reviews on social media platforms; this gives the business a wider exposure to more people especially if the review is positive. Secondly, according to Dennison and Montecchi (2017), 70% of consumers, trust reviews from other consumers. Thus enhancing a good relationship with consumers will make them leave, positive reviews that will attract customers in return. Thirdly, online reviews create credibility and trust towards the organization. According to a report by Bazaar Voice, customers have a high possibility of up to 82% to be converted, from the online reviews. It further reports that, when a business replies to reviews made by consumers, it increases the trust by 41% (Harrell 2009). This deed shows the business concern of its consumers. Lastly, online reviews assist the organization in improving the customer care services. This is majorly very positive to the organization when a business uses the negative reviews for constructive criticism to improve on its failures. Drawbacks of online reviews However, despite the numerous positive impacts online reviews have on business. There are a few cons. The first is the lack of negative reviews. Consumers tend to trust a business more if it has both positive and negative reviews. The National Law Review (2013) states that, if a company lacks negative reviews, 30% of consumers may consider its review as fabricated and not honest. Secondly, a single negative review could ruin the entire reputation of the organization and keep away customers. This could lead to loss of projected consumers. The last but the least, third party review sites, may be very expensive. This limits the business from using online reviews. Company advertising This ismarketing done through mass media, online media or print media, where a business pays for the charges. These ads are done to attract customers to the business. However, currently trust in these advertising methods have drastically gone down among consumers .according to research done by lab 42 (Cheung et al. 2009), it showed that consumers did not trust ads. According to the statistics gathered, 76% of consumers, termed ads as exaggerated with a lot of distortion. Another 87% of consumers believe that business ads are fabricated through either Photoshop or other means. More consumers portrayed their distrust in consumers because they believed that the company is biased when making these ads. However, a few consumers consider ads. Benefits of company advertising There are various benefits realized by business when using company advertising. For instance, in a survey in America, 86% of individuals rated T.V ads as the most influential when it comes to decisions on purchasing. Secondly, businesses have realized more sales as well from the company ads made in TVs and print media. This has been realized because they are those individuals who still are interested in ads made in the mass media. For instance, when advertising a mans product using a good-looking woman, men tend to be interested. These ads always have a way of eliciting attention and compelling consumers towards them. Drawbacks of company ads In the world today, a company's ads have more cons than pros. First, there is no guarantee. In advertising, a lot of money is used, but it does not guarantee that it will reach the targeted consumers. Secondly, consumers lack the interest in company ads. This comes from the fact that, most consumers consider company ads biased and fabricated. They find it hard to find out about the business through these ads because they do not give a clear outline about the business. Thirdly, advertising may at times pass the wrong message. Consumers interpret messages differently, and some ads may not communicate clear messages but may send the unintended message. Fourthly, advertising is an expensivemarketing method and may incur the unnecessary business costs. Lastly, most advertising messages, may not have the message consumers want to know about the business. Thus this may not assist the business much. Again repetitive ads tend to be more annoying to consumers, leading to disinterest (Harrell 2 009). Conclusion From the above analysis, it is clear that consumers prefer online reviews to the company ads when looking for an organization or in considering products and services. This is because of the various surveys were done on consumers. Due to these surveys, many more businesses have taken to include online reviews on their company websites or using third party business review sites, where they do it for the business. It has come to the realization of the consumers that 2/3 of consumers consider what other consumers say about an organization or their experience with the organization. This helps to gauge the consumers understanding of the business and acquire knowledge on the business products and services. Consumers have also taken to depending on recommendations made by consumers on social media platforms. The reason behind, the high percent of consumers who prefer online reviews is from the genuine and precise answers they find about business from other consumers, compared to the company ads that aim at making sales and attracting more customers to the organization. Consumers have been seen to appreciate both positive and negative reviews of a business made more than the companys ads that do not talk about any negativity concerning the business, making it look fabricated and one sided. From the different research made, only about 13 percent of consumers who never consider online reviews. That means the largest percent, considers more online reviews, and even have to read about six to ten different reviews to make an appropriate decision. However, some business like Deloitte has maintained, that ads still make substantial impacts on the business sales, although this does not increase the trust of consumers towards the organization. Due to the high number of reviews done on a daily by consumers; businesses have to be very careful in maintaining a positive reputation of the business. Within the last five years, there has been an increasing number of online reviews made by consumers. This has made online reviews the number one marketing technology recommended for business. Consumers are considered important aspects of the organization, and business should put more effort to ensure that consumers leave a positive review, and compel those not interested in reviewing the services of the organization each time. From the above analysis from different researchers, it is very clear that consumer satisfaction increases through reading reviews made by others and not just listening to the company ads. Consumers have lacked interes t in companys advertising messages because of the way these ads tend to be one sided. Company ads always focus on the positive side of the organization and never tell the consumers of any weaknesses an organization may possess. This leaves the consumers with a lot of unanswered questions, and thats why, consumers have shifted to online reviews, where they learn about a business on two sides. The Lady with the Dog and The Garden Party Essay Example
The Lady with the Dog and The Garden Party Essay In daily life, one is constantly presented with obstacles, challenges, and opportunities. It is what One does with these occurrences that defines Oneââ¬â¢s character. In order for change to occur within a person, acceptance is necessary. ââ¬ËThe Garden Partyââ¬â¢, written by Katharine Mansfield and ââ¬ËThe Lady With the Dog,ââ¬â¢ written by Anton Tchekhov were short stories that focused on the outcome of the choices One makes based on prior experiences. The two stories had one main theme in common: acceptance. In the stories both of the main characters experience substantial change and they are different at the end of the story than they were at the beginning. Within their stories, Mansfield and Tcherkhov write about how key events in Oneââ¬â¢s life can influence the acceptance of change. Their writings tell a story of the importance of letting go of pre conceived ideas, and they both conclude with the realization of acceptance in the lives of their characters. The main characters of the short stories come from different worlds, one innocent and childish, and one harsh and unforgiving, but both characters experience a similar journey towards acceptance. The journey of Moscow-born Dmitri Gurov, Tchekhovââ¬â¢s character, begins by explaining his passion for women. When describing Gurovââ¬â¢s relationship with his wife, Tchekhov managed to communicate the deep set issues of Gurov as he ââ¬Å"[c]onsidered her unintelligent, narrow, inelegant, was afraid of her, and did not like to be home.â⬠(pg #) One can gather from the description of the woman that he loves that Gurov does not have a lot of respect for her. Nisa essay essays
Nisa essay essays For Westerners, especially Americans, comprehending and appreciating a culture almost completely opposite their own is a large challenge. Majorie Shostak wanted to paint a portrait of the !Kung Bushman of Africa so that her readers could gain the same understanding of their people as she had by living with them. As an artist would, she went to see and experience the !Kung lifestyle in person. You cant paint a true representation of a landscape from a picture or description of it, you have to be there and absorb it first hand. One of the more difficult aspects of African tribal culture to understand is often the role of women. Gender roles in family life, marriage, and daily responsibilities sharply contrast those we are used to. However, through her interviews and day-to-day interaction Shostak paints us a picture that is so vivid and true, it is impossible to put her book down and still hold on to the same prejudices and geocentric attitudes we often carry with us. The most important responsibilities of a !Kung woman are caring for the children and providing food for the family. In an average day women will gather between fifteen and thirty pounds of vegetables. They carry the food and their children with them as they work. Like many tribes men hunt and women gather. However, Nisa also tells us women set traps for small animals as well, Id put the bulb in and leave it for the birds. Id check the traps later in the day. If the bird was caught, Id bring it home and my older brother would take the feathers off (91). Between the trapping gathering women contribute 60-80 percent of the food consumed (12). However, this does not lessen the importance of the mens job of hunting. Hunting skills are developed early on as a child, sometimes as early as toddler age. When they reach adolescence they begin to accompany the men on hunts, but are kept out of unnecessary danger. One th...

A Realistic Assessment of a Marine Biologists Earning Potential
A Realistic Assessment of a Marine Biologist's Earning Potential Do you think you want to be a marine biologist? An important consideration might be what amount youll earn. It is a tricky question, as marine biologists perform a variety of jobs, and what they are paid depends on what they do, who employs them, their level of education, and experience. What Does a Marine Biologist's Job Entail? The term marine biologist is a very general term for someone who studies or works with animals or plants that live in salt water. There are thousands of species of marine life, so while some marine biologists do well-recognized jobs like training marine mammals, the vast majority of marine biologists do other things. This includes studying the deep sea, working in aquariums, teaching at a college or university, or even studying the tiny microbes in the ocean. Some jobs may involve tasks as odd as studying whale poopà or whale breath. What Is a Marine Biologist's Salary? Because the jobs of a marine biologist are so wide-ranging, their salary is also. A person that has focused on marine biology in college may first get an entry-level technician job helping a researcher in a lab or in the field (or rather, out in the ocean). These jobs may pay an hourly wage (sometimes minimum wage) and may or may not come with benefits. Jobs in marine biology are competitive, so often a potential marine biologist will need to get experience through a volunteer position or internship before they can get a paying job. To get additional experience, marine biology majors may want to get a job on a boat (e.g., as a crew member or naturalist) or even at a veterinarians office where they can learn more about anatomy and working with animals. More established marine biologists may earn from about $35,000 to about $80,000 annually. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay in 2017 was $62,290, but they lump the marine biologists in with all zoologists and wildlife biologists. In many organizations and universities, a marine biologist will have to write grants to supply funding for their salaries.à Those working in non-profit organizations may need to assist with other types of fundraising in addition to grants, such as meeting with donors or running fundraising events. Should You Become a Marine Biologist? Most marine biologistsà do their jobs because they love the work. It is a benefit in itself, even though compared to some other jobs, they dont make a lot of money, and the work is not always steady. So you should weigh the benefits of a job as a marine biologist (e.g., often working outside, travel opportunities, trips to exotic locations, working with marine life) with the fact that jobs in marine biology generally pay fairly modestly. The job outlook for 2016-2026 showed positions for wildlife biologists were expected to grow at a rate of eight percent, which is approximately as fast as for all jobs in general. Many positions are funded from government sources, so they are limited by ever-changing governmental budgets. You will need to be good at science and biology to complete the education necessary to become a marine biologist.à You need at least a bachelors degree, and for many positions, they will prefer a person with a masters degree or doctorate. That will entail many years of advanced study and tuition expenses. Even if you dont choose marine biology as a career, you still may get to work with marine life. Many aquariums, zoos, rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and conservation organizations look for volunteers, and some positions may involve working directly with, or at least on behalf of, marine life.

Textual Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 2
Textual Analysis - Essay Example For him, group absolution means the dominance of the group influence over individual will. Grossman effectively convinces the audience through pathos and logos that people can kill another person because of their group bonds that dissolve their accountability and promote their anonymity, although he commits the fallacies of false analogy, biased sample, and confusing cause and effect, when he fails to expand his sampling and to identify other probable motivations and conditions for killing. Grossman effectively convinces the audience through pathos that it takes emotional bonding to do something as hard as killing another human being, as well as being killed. He uses different emotional examples to support his claim. For instance, he mentions Dinter who explains that the ââ¬Å"integration of the individual in the groupâ⬠can be so deep that when the group is destroyed or defeated, individuals either fall to depression or commit suicide (Grossman 149-150). This example is emotio nally charged because it describes how people give up their lives when their groups falter. Furthermore, Grossman highlights the emotional connections involved in group bonding that can overpass the will of survival. He cites the account of a veteran U.S. Marines Corp. Gwynne Dyer, who underlines the role of ââ¬Å"peer pressureâ⬠in combat, while Ardant du Picq calls it ââ¬Å"mutual surveillanceâ⬠(Grossman 150). He mentions these people who believe that groups form emotional connections, which make them extremely aware of and sensitive to one anotherââ¬â¢s opinions and actions. In addition, Grossman uses examples of emotional value to stress the association between emotional group bonds and individual action. He narrates the action of Audie Murphy as a form of gallantry: ââ¬Å"[Murphy] won the Medal of Honor by single-handedly taking on a German infantry companyâ⬠(Grossman 155). The word ââ¬Å"single-handedlyâ⬠suggests that, for Grossman, what Murphy di d is not stupid, but rather admirable. Grossman extends this admiration by quoting something deeply emotional from Murphy, who said that he attacked the Germans against all odds because ââ¬Å"they were killing [his] friendsâ⬠(Grossman 155). Murphy is illustrated as a selfless, devoted comrade, an emotional tactic that depicts how emotions surpass rationality in the context of heroic acts. Grossman, hence, clearly articulates through the testimonies of others that killing is a group business with strong emotional attachment, and not a product of individual will alone. While using pathos, Grossman also employs logos to explain how the group shapes individual combat behavior. He uses analogy to describe the parallelism between animal and human group behavior. He narrates the result of the 1972 research of Kruck, who learned that some animals slaughter prey that are more than necessary for their consumption because of group behavior (Grossman 151). Grossman believes that the same analogy applies to people in groups, where they think and act like a herd, instead of as separate individuals. He adds the explanation of Shalit, which he believes is important to corroborate his analogy. Shalit believes that ââ¬Å"senseless violence in the animal worldâ⬠is similar to ââ¬Å"violence in the human domain,â⬠and in both cases, groups are the ones who conduct violent acts, not individuals (Grossman 151). Senseless violence cannot be performed by one individual in normal cases, but groups can

Finally, we can get hot news from internet about everything, such as daily news, political, sport news, when we want and where we want. Since it was invented wireless connection opportunities we are able to use internet everywhere. And moreover it makes us available to get information about everything every time. In conclusion, I would like to sum up and summarize again that internet is one of the most important innovations which makes our lives easy because of its several facilities. Email, earning money and getting news are very vital opportunities for everybody to make their life easier. nowadays our society has enjoyed the benefits of having modern technology. We are blessed with modern tools, which could perform to what seemed to be an impossible task in the past like retrieving information in a matter of seconds. However, this often comes with unforseen and undesirable consequences defeating the very objective in the first place. To my mind, modern technology is a bane than a boon. It cannot be denied that the technological improvement brings forth to us some advantages. Firstly, it helps man communicate local or oversea by writing email, telephone or mobile. A student , for instance, who is studying abroad can talk to his family by chatting and web cam rather than waiting for a hand writing letters. Secondly, the modern tools also support man in business and studying. It makes better condition to fulfill tasks faster and more convenient. For example, a student spend less time searching information and documents by clicking mouse on google rather than is stuck with many books in library. A business man can deal with his job by using laptop and internet whereas he can still enjoy holiday with his family. Nevertheless, for every solution technology provides twice as many problems are likely to cause. The modern technology is to some extent underlying causes of negative things in our society. Its Internet that provides an accessible medium for bad elements such as pornography, crimes and so on. the teenagers who are not conscious enough tend to imitate the sexual and violence clips and images on internet. A typical example of this is the massacre in an American school. A pupil killed his classmates by his father s gun simply because he only acted as a clip he saw. Moreover, the average rate of girls who are pregnant is very soon because of sexual images s influence. Modern technology is the key element for the change of lifestyle loosing the moral value. Man abuses on computer in all fields. They are lack of face- face communication and therefore the distance between the generations becomes farther. the old people feel lonely at home and far from their off springs who are too busy with computers. Thus, the stability of family are being broken day after day. In addition, energetic and meaningful lifestyle is being replaces by wasteful hours in front of computers. Man becomes lazy and isolated from their surroundings. In conclusion. similar to everything. modern technology has both advantages and drawbacks. I personally think that it depends on how we use the modern tools. People should aware of technologys role to solve its bad effects Today, Americans are faced with the increasing change of technology in our everyday life. Sometimes the change happens and we do not realize how it affects our lives. I think it is always a good idea to talk to someone that is older than yourself, like your grandparents to remind you of the times in their younger years. Hopefully, that will open your eyes to the changes we face in this generation and the generation to come. In this chapter, the author explores the relationship of changing technology to changes in both the environment and social institutions.

Analysis of Platos Allegory of the Cave Essay -- Papers Plato Allegor
Analysis of Plato's Allegory of the Cave Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" presents a vision of humans as slaves chained in front of a fire observing the shadows of things on the cave wall in front of them. The shadows are the only "reality" the slaves know. Plato argues that there is a basic flaw in how we humans mistake our limited perceptions as reality, truth and goodness. The allegory reveals how that flaw affects our education, our spirituality and our politics. The flaw that Plato speaks about is trusting as real, what one sees - believing absolutely that what one sees is true. In The Allegory of the Cave, the slaves in the caves know that the shadows, thrown on the wall by the fire behind them, are real. If they were to talk to the shadows echoes would make the shadows appear to talk back. To the slaves "the truth would be literally nothing but the shadows of the images." (Jacobus 316). In the allegory, a slave is then brought out of the cave, in what Plato refers to as "he ascent of the soul into the intellectual world" (Jacobus 319). Once out of the cave the slave discovers that what he thought was real is not. He learns to comprehend all of these new images as real and true. Since he has been in the dark, both literally and metaphorically, the light blinds him. Representing knowledge, the light is too brilliant for him to see and comprhend. He must be re-educated. "First he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of the men and other objects? then the objects themselves" (Jacobus 317). He learns that the reflections are truer than shadows and the objects truer than reflections. He must deal with a new reality that does not exist within the cave. Plato says that these people who a... ...ary friend when we are younger. Our imaginary friend is very real to us, but as we get older or make the ascent to the world of knowledge, we reject our imaginary friends. We are faced with a different reality where we start to believe that what our eyes show us is the only truth. We forget to question things and don't realize that maybe there is yet another ascent, out of this bigger "cave" of the light. Human beings' knowledge of goodness, reality, and truth will always be limited by our fear of new ideas and new perspectives. As long as we are afraid of questioning, we will be willing to "put to death" anyone who ascends and returns to the cave with the truth. Work Cited Corinthians II, The New Jerusalem Bible. Persuasive Essay on why cancer is preventable Essay
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. This year, over 1.2 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer and about 560,000 will die from it. The rates have doubled in less than forty years. In my opinion, cancer is totally preventable. This may be a drastic statement but I believe the facts will prove it is true. In 1952, Dr. Ernest Krebs proposed a theory that cancer was a deficiency disease, similar to scurvy. His theory was that the cause of the disease was the lack of an essential vitamin in a personââ¬â¢s diet. He identified it as vitamin B17, a part of the nitriloside family which is found in over 1200 edible plants. It is found in the seeds of apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach, apples and others. To prove a theory it must be tested scientifically. The best way for Dr. Krebs to prove his theory would be for thousands of people to eat a diet very high in vitamin B17 and then check the results. This would have been very expensive but, fortunately, the experiment wasnââ¬â¢t necessary because it had already been done naturally. Between West Pakistan, India and China is the remote valley of Hunza. The people of Hunza have 200 times more B17 in their diet than the average American. In fact, in a place where there is no money, wealth is measured by how many apricot trees a man has. Medical teams who have traveled to Hunza discovered that there has never been a case of cancer. The average age of the Hunza people is about 85, but many live to be 100 years or older. Eskimos are another group of cancer-free people that have been observed for several decades. The traditional Eskimo diet is very rich in nitrilosides, or B17, that come from the meat of caribou and other grazing animals and also from salmonberries. There are many other groups of people throughout the world ââ¬â from all races and all regions. The one thing that they have in common is that the degree to which they are free from cancer is in proportion to the amount of nitrilosides found in their native diets. While it is available in most countries, vitamin B17 cannot be sold in the United States. The reason is because it has not been approved by the FDA. That process takes years of research and costs millions of dollars. The only firms that can afford that are the large pharmaceutical companies. Since you cannot get a patent for a substance found in nature, it is not likely that this vitamin will ever be approved. In fact, since cancer treatment in the United States is a billion dollar industry, pharmaceutical companies have an interest in discrediting the vitamin deficiency theory. The FDA started a false campaign which claimed that nitriloside was toxic and dangerous because it contains cyanide. It does, in minute quantities. If you eat the seeds from a hundred apples in a day you would risk serious side effects, possibly death. If you eat enormous amounts of anything you run serious health risks. Aspirin is twenty times more toxic than the same amount of B17. In the 1970s Memorial Sloan-Kettering, a cancer center in New York, tested vitamin B17. While they publicly came out with a report that said the results were ââ¬Å"inconclusiveâ⬠and that it did no good, research doctors knew the truth. Years later Dr. Ralph Moss, one of the researchers, confessed that he had been told to give statements exactly opposite of what they were finding scientifically. Scurvy (vitamin C deficiency) was able to be controlled centuries ago. I believe the evidence for vitamin B17 has been scientifically proven to do the same for cancer prevention. Since the American diet is lower than ever in nitrilocides, it is up to each person to try to eat foods that will help us live healthy lives.

Group Speech
Today we would like to talk you about finding a more a healthier you. First I will start off with discussing the physical fitness aspect. (Khrys) Next I will be discussing the basic guidelines for eating healthy. (Corey) Thirdly, I shall discuss how to reduce and cope with everyday stress. (Derek) Lastly, I will explain to you the affects that drugs have on your well being. Body First (Ken)Everyone wants a nice body. As men we want to look like those bodybuilders with the veins sticking out and biceps as big as a basketball. And women, they dream of having the perfect hourglass figure like the models in Victoriaââ¬â¢s Secret commercials. Pretty much its those who seem to live at the gym. 1. Edward Laskowski from mayo clinic in Rochester Minn. says, ââ¬Å"A lot of people lives start with, 1) you get a bit fat, 2) start to hate the way you look, 3) hit the gym with vengeance, 4) start to look noticeably better, 5) loose motivation and stop working out for a few weeks, and last start all over again. As shown many feel that exercising makes them tired. For most people the feeling of sweat and fatigue is just not natural.Though it is proven that exercising boosts your energy level. Exercising and increasing the heart rate helps carry vital nutrients and oxygen to tissues in the body. 1. Cardio workouts help increase your heart rate. The increase in rate helps blood flow throughout your body carrying oxygen to the muscles being used. 2. Iron is what forms many proteins and enzymes in the body for proper functioning and maintaining a healthy body. Iron is what binds with hemoglobinââ¬â¢s, which is a protein in red blood cells that carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. With all this in mind the body should feel fatigue after exercising. Working out in the morning has best results for daily function. Through the day you will wake up, resulting at the end of the day you will feel tired when it is time to sleep. Also since you have a much deeper sleep, the fallowing day you shall be more focused on what you need to be doing. A. Strength training is a very important aspect. And yes even for women. Ladies donââ¬â¢t worry it is impossible for you to build like a man without using steroids. As a beginner, first off, learn proper technique.Once you have taught the muscles how to properly support weight other than your own body, keep it light and keep it tight. This will help prevent injury from occurring. 1. Start with a single amount of repetitions. You donââ¬â¢t need to be like the body builder at the gym. Do a set 10-12, at the end of the last 2 or 3 you should be struggling. 2. Start slow and with the basics. Stick to squats, dead lifts, bench, pull-ups, sit-ups etc. till you have strengthened yourself. Last and most importantly, rest. The body needs rest and as well plenty of water. When working out the body breaks down muscle fibers leaving you sore sometimes the next day. Next (Khrys)The food and the physical activity we c hoose, will affect our health, and how we feel today, tomorrow, and hopefully in the future. Most of us here today might be eating enough food, but not all of us are eating the correct foods, therefore depriving our body of the vital nutrients we need to stay healthy. A great example of this is in a documentary called ââ¬Å"Supersize Meâ⬠. This movie shows the affects of eating breakfast lunch and dinner at McDonalds for thirty consecutive days. Not Good. According to the Department of Health and Human Services the average American diet is too high in calories, sugars, fats, cholesterol, sodium, animal protein, and alcohol, and too low in complex carbs, dietary fiber, fruitââ¬â¢s, vegetables, and water. The key to feeling better today and healthier for tomorrow starts with a good eating plan that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low fat milk and milk products. Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. And is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt, and added sugars. There is also a correct number of calories you should eat each day, this number depends upon your age, activity level, and whether or not youââ¬â¢re trying to gain, maintain, or lose weight. You can calculate your number on www. healthierus. gov/dietaryguidlines. With healthier eating habits, you can reduce the risks of many chronic diseases including heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and certain cancers, and increase your chances for a longer more enjoyable life. Thirdly (Corey)In a recent study by the associated press. out of 10 students say they endure stress often and 1 out of 5 students say they deal with it most or all of the time. So it affects us some how or another. Either you or your friends. If not dealt with in the right way stress can lead to more stress and can lead to more unhealthy choices. People we all have problems its how you deal with it that makes it stressful or just another problem. From helpguide. org I have ways to help reduce stress. First identify the sources of stress. Guys this isnââ¬â¢t as easy as it sounds. Some say start a stress journal.Second look at how you cope with the stress. There's the unhealthy way of dealing with stress. Like smoking, drinking to much, overeating or under eating. Then learning how to deal with it the healthy way. Thirdly avoiding unnecessary stress if there someone who gives you stress how about spending less time with him or her. College can be stressful so you donââ¬â¢t need any extra stress. 4th if something canââ¬â¢t be change like having a child to deal with try altering the situation. Like expressing your feelings instead of bottling them up, being more assertive and being open and willing to compromise. If asking someone to change their behavior be willing to do the same. 5th adapt to the stressor if there something you cant changed like a boss. Then try to focus on the positive. Adjust your standards trying to do everything perfe ct is a set up for more stress. 6th Accept the things you can't change. Some stress is just clearly unavoidable like deaths of a love one you cant change that. Sharing your feelings is huge. Learn to forgive bottling up emotions about what someone did to you or someone else does more harm then good. Its like the saying drinking poison and hoping the other guy dies. 7th Make time for fun and relaxation. There healthy ways to do this. Like going for a walk, spend time in nature, Call a good friend, reading a book, watch a comedy. Laughter is a cure people for stress. Lastly is adopt a healthy Lifestyle like exercise regularly, eating a healthy diet, Reduce caffeine and sugar, avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs. And Lastly (Derek)Drugs (the effects of drugs on your body, more specifically, the most common drug in useâ⬠¦ ) Caffeine Increases energy/concentrationCaffeine was put on rat neurons in vitro (suspended in water) and was found that dendrites would grow, and then retract wh en the neurons got used to the caffeine. Relieves indigestion, stress and hyperactive disorders May aggravate illnesses and disorders causing bone loss over time, temporary hardening of arterial walls (atherosclerosis) undue chemical stress on the brain [wikipedia] Causes low energy and apathy between uses, and of course is addictive, as well as carries the side effects of: anxiousness excitability restlessness dizziness rritability inability to concentrate gastrointestinal (GI) aches headaches that don't seem to go away trouble sleeping weight gain higher risk for diabetes Alternatives Mate (to wean you off) contains a little over half the caffeine of coffee, but in a slightly different form, called mateine. has been shown to lessen the tendency towards obesity induced by a high-fat diet. LDL-cholesterol reduction (that's the bad kind) Uses in treating heart disease contains antioxidants which are good for nearly everything B-vitamins (if you want to quit completely) nergy good for skin and and nucleic acid production (cell regeneration) We have the affects of drugs In conclusion we discussed four key aspects to finding a healthier you first we covered the physical aspect, Next we discussed the basic guide to eating healthier; Thirdly we explained how to cope with daily stress and Lastly we indulged in the effects drugs have on our well being. We hope you all gained something good from our speech, thank you for your time.Work Cited1) ââ¬Å"1 in 5 undergrads is constantly stressedâ⬠msn. com[http://www. msnbc. sn. com/id/23693229] The associated press 2008 2) Smith Melinda, Jaffe-Gil Ellen, and Segal Robert ââ¬Å"Stress Management how to reduce, prevent, and cope with stressâ⬠Help guide, October 2010. http://helpguide. org? mental? stress_management_relief_coping. htm3) U. Seagulls Choke and Die essays
Seagulls Choke and Die essays Today there exist many solutions and all kinds of preventions to every single kind of pollution. In the United States alone, a major effort against pollution of air began with a Clean Air Act in 1970 (ametsoc.org). The act required that air could contain only a limited amount of pollutants like carbon monoxide, lead, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen, and many more harmful toxins. This act sets deadlines that companies must for air pollution control. The Environmental Protection Agency is in charge of enforcing those standards, but all the work of fighting pollution is up to state governments and air pollution control districts. Some areas have taken the initiative to exceed the standards of the Clean Air Act, and thus produce cleaner air. So how can we clean up the air? The answer is simple, pollution control and government assistance. Pollution can never be eliminated, only reduced. There are mainly two ways that pollution can be reduced. The EPA controls pollution with two methods, the first being what is called the End of the Pipe technique. This includes devices that will capture pollutants created, and limit the amount of toxins produced from such things as cars, and factories (ametsoc.org). There are many different types of these devices. They include the catalytic converter in automobiles, which captures unburned carbons instead of releasing them into the atmosphere as carbon monoxide. Also, there exist numerous kinds of filters in industrial plants. When these devices were first introduced they reduced pollution at a fairly reasonable cost. However, as our air pollution standards from the EPA become stricter, it becomes more expensive to keep the air clean. Many factories are going bankrupt in todays economy. It is a very difficult task to set aside large amounts of money to control a factorys pollution. Even if a company is well off financially the End of the Pipe controls cant rid the air of pollutio ...

Script Writing Tips and Format Example
Script Writing Tips and Format Example Script Writing Tips and Format Example Script Writing Tips and Format Example By Michael If critics tell you that your stories have too much dialogue, maybe you should consider writing scripts. Its different from writing ordinary prose. For one thing, a script is not the finished work of art. Its the blueprint that the director and actors use to create the work of art. The good news about that: your words dont have to carry all the weight. As a playwright, I like the way a stronger actor can make up for my weaker writing. Unfortunately, the reverse is also true. But though a bad actor can completely misinterpret a perfectly clear line, a good actor can bring out the meaning that you were not quite able to express through words alone. Unlike a novel, there will be no great literature unless a character speaks it. An inarticulate man doesnt change just because you have a big noble speech you want him to make. Enter late, leave early. Every writer needs to remove anything that doesnt advance the story, but thats particularly true for scriptwriters. And sometimes you dont realize that a scene doesnt advance the story until you try removing it and discover that it still works. William Goldman, who wrote The Princess Bride and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid said, ââ¬Å"You always attack a movie scene as late as you possibly can. You always come into the scene at the last possible moment.â⬠In the same way, once youve made your point, dont belabor it. Always leaving them wanting more. Otherwise, they may start wanting less and leaving the theater early. A joke works best when its given no extra emphasis, when all the fat has been trimmed. Alfred Hitchcock told an interviewer in 1960, How does one describe drama? Drama is life with the dull bits cut out. Writing is a balance between saying too much and saying too little. Its a show: show dont tell The visual nature of the screen or stage makes it easier to follow the writers rule of show, dont tell. The rule is harder to follow on radio and podcasts, because they cannot show anything visually. So a scriptwriter must turn to narration, as he might in a book, or to less-than-subtle dialogue: Look out, he has a gun! Early TV hadnt found its sea legs yet as a visual medium, and perhaps depended on narrators more than necessary. But a film or play is more than a book in visual form. In an intriguing novel (nameless here, so I dont ruin it if you havent read it), friendly inhabitants take a mistrustful visitor into their home for the night. As he lies down to sleep, he slowly realizes that maybe his hosts have put on a friendly appearance only to trap him. In the television miniseries adaptation, the exposition depends on the visitor thinking out loud in bed for several minutes as his host listens. It was awkward: What if you plan to spring on me as soon as I realize the danger? Thank you for reminding me. I'll do that now. Maid and butler talk on a do-it-yourself basis, since you dont have to pay a maid or butler. No wonder the novelist found the miniseries just boring. This scene could easily have been adapted more cinematically, showing not telling, based on the novelists own words. INT. HOST'S BEDROOM - NIGHT The CAPTAIN is lying in bed. He glances at his HOST in the other bed. He lifts his head to look again more closely. His host's bedsheet is pulled back, revealing his hand. CLOSE UP - the HOST'S HAND has four fingers, with claws. The Captain carefully rolls back the covers. He slips from bed and walks softly across the room. HOST: (coldly) Where are you going?" CAPTAIN: For a drink of water. HOST: But you're not thirsty. CAPTAIN: Yes, yes, I am. HOST: No, you're not. FOOTSTEPS as the captain tries to run across the room. CAPTAIN (O.S.) He screams twice. SILENCE. The TICKING of an old CLOCK. People dont need to say exactly what they mean. In real life, people dont say, I asked you how you were doing because I wanted you to ask me how I was doing, since I wanted to talk with you so that you would feel comfortable enough with me to say Yes when I asked you out on a date. Real life is more subtle. Behind the text, there is the subtext the thoughts that motivate the character to speak. When a scene has too little subtext or subtlety, people say it is too on the nose. We dont need everything spelled out, and it isnt as much fun. You dont want a mystery writer to spell everything out, do you, except perhaps at the end. We can tell if someone is romantically interested in someone else by the way they say, How are you doing? A script leaves less to the audiences imagination. Many authors make a point not to describe their characters appearance too precisely, to make it easier for diverse readers to relate to the story. But when you see The Hunger Games on the screen, now you know what Katniss Everdeen looks like, and can no longer easily imagine that she looks like you. Unless you happen to look like Jennifer Lawrence. However, the writer can only suggest visual details. He or she cannot mandate that the movie be filmed in New Zealand and co-star Kevin Bacon, much as the writer may visualize the story just that way. Proper format shows professionalism. If you submit your novel to a publisher, and it isnt double-spaced with a one-inch margin (with only one space after a period), you will appear inexperienced and possibly inept, which you dont want to be. But a script has even more complex formatting requirements, with lots of white space, specific indents, and particular capitalization conventions. A script is written in present tense, with no more than two or three lines per paragraph dialogue too. Twist your plot, then twist it again. Sure, publishers would love to get their hands on the Harry Potter of the 2020s but not if its exactly like Harry Potter. They dont want potential readers to say, I already have a book about an Indian boy who spends 227 days in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. I dont need another one. You might have come up with that brilliant plot device all on your own, without the inspiration of somebody else, but if it happens to have already been used by somebody else, your chance for a sale just went way down. Ironically, to create a truly original story, you have to become very familiar with other peoples stories, to make sure that yours is sufficiently different from them. Good writing must include the unexpected. So when you come up with one good idea, keep coming up with more. If you dont have enough good ideas, try browsing through the standard plot types. But you can build twists yourself. You could summarize The Silence of the Lambs in a brief logline, as follows: An F.B.I. agent tracks down a serial killer. Other stories have had that same premise. How about adding to it? A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help in catching another serial killer. Now that is getting more interesting. But dont stop yet. A young F.B.I. cadet tracks down an elusive serial killer as she develops his psychological profile, reluctantly confiding in a manipulative psychologist who has been locked up for years after committing a series of similar murders. Instead of an ordinary F.B.I. agent, now there is a particularly vulnerable one, mismatched for the task. Because instead of one murderer, now there are two murderers, both clever, and one is stalking the other from behind bars. Satisfied? With that kind of carefully planning, your script could win an Academy Award, as The Silence of the Lambss script did. The original novel sold 11 million copies. Status of Women Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Status of Women - Essay Example Abigail Adams is often remembered for admonishing her husband to ââ¬Å"remember the ladiesâ⬠in framing the constitution, but in reply her husband in 1776 makes it clear that he has no intentions of redistributing power. He maintained that women and other disenfranchised groups ought to remain subordinates because of their lack of capacity to reason and for responsible use of liberty. To an extent, Adamsââ¬â¢ persistence on patriarchal supremacy is based on fear of crisis, which proposes that he considers women as well as other politically powerless individuals as being possibly ââ¬Å"wildâ⬠thus; they need to be tamed to maintain social order. However, Abigail appeals to her husbandââ¬â¢s honor as well as the sense of responsibility concluding that men of senses in all ages detest customs that treat women as vessels of sex and beings of providence under menââ¬â¢s protection. Even though, Adams relied on her wifeââ¬â¢s extraordinary resourcefulness to run the farm in his absence like keeping his records and even asking her to use her influence in implementing his political ideas, he is unable to acknowledge her real political power. Adams feared that chaos might arise if women were allowed to participate in public life since like his forbearers who subscribed to structures of female behavior; he was convinced that social order in the country would be undermined if women became part of the public life (Abigail and John, n.d). Early excitement after the French revolution enabled the legislators who overthrew the government-crafted statement of universal rights entitled ââ¬Å"The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizenâ⬠. However, crafters of the document wrote it for the political world where women played little role the declaration therefore applied to only half of human species according to Olympe de Gouge a revolutionary woman. In 1779 two years following The Declaration of rights of Man appeared, Olympe wrote rights of woman that included ââ¬Å"The Declaration of the Rights of Womanâ⬠directly confronting revolutionaries. Her disquieting approach and thought about the revolutionary order considered the revolution to be nothing unless it included sweeping changes in womenââ¬â¢s rights, which was radical to the revolutionary leaders. She felt that man alone raised his exceptional circumstances to a principle bloated with science and degenerated into ignorance of commanding as a despot a sex in full possession of its intellectual faculties; moreover, at the time men pretended to enjoy the revolution and claimed their rights to equality in order be mum about the issue (Olympe, n.d). Wollstonecraft in her introduction to her book ââ¬Å"Vindication of the Rights of Womenâ⬠shows her willingness to argue, dispute and suggest alternatives offer great source of wisdom and understanding for more than two hundred years. This approach was similar to that of Abigail Adams since constantly remaindered her husband to consider women in drafting the constitution and these womenââ¬â¢s approach remain to be relevant even today. Wollstonecraft exposition was not limited to rights, which she devoted much attention in their ensuring their legislation, but her approach also reached a wide range of social and political
